PPL Electric Utilities announced plans to carry out more than 55 major grid-strengthening projects in 2026 as part of a broader effort to improve reliability across its Pennsylvania service area.

The company will expand Smart Grid technology, replace aging cables and poles, and conduct vegetation management along more than 4,750 miles of power lines to reduce outages. These initiatives are part of a multi-year infrastructure program under which PPL Electric plans to invest more than $8 billion between 2026 and 2029 to modernize the electric grid and support regional growth.

PPL said similar upgrades and maintenance efforts helped cut outages by nearly 25% in 2025 compared with the previous year, with the new investments aimed at strengthening the network against severe weather and improving restoration times for customers.
