Autodesk said it has partnered with BioDapt, founded by three-time U.S. Paralympic medalist and para snowboarder Mike Schultz, to help develop next-generation high-performance prosthetics for para athletes targeting Los Angeles 2028 and beyond.
The companies said the work builds on prior collaboration using Autodesk Fusion, Autodesk’s cloud manufacturing platform, to consolidate BioDapt’s legacy CAD into a centralized Fusion Hub and redesign key prosthetic components. Autodesk highlighted updates to Schultz’s ankle frame and binding brace aimed at improving stiffness and durability in cold conditions without increasing 3D print time, and standardizing hole patterns so a single part fits multiple BioDapt leg models to reduce variants. Autodesk said the redesigned parts have had no failures in training since the update, improving reliability during the current season.
Autodesk framed the partnership as relevant beyond elite sport, citing WHO estimates that more than 2.5 billion people need assistive products globally, while access can be as low as 3% in some countries, and positioning design efficiency and scalable manufacturing as core constraints. The release also noted future exploration areas including metal 3D-printed ankle concepts, motion capture and embedded sensors to analyze force transfer and fatigue, and AI-assisted design suggestions inside Fusion.
Schultz is set to retire from competitive para snowboarding after his final competition in Cortina next month, and Autodesk said a three-part docuseries, Built to Move, will launch March 6, 2026 on Autodesk*com.
