Boeing (NYSE: BA) announced that its 777-9 flight training simulators have received initial qualification from the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and the European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA), allowing progress toward regulator-approved pilot training.

The qualified devices, located at the Boeing Training Campus in Gatwick, U.K., include a full-flight simulator and a flight training device developed in collaboration with CAE. The systems replicate the 777-9’s advanced aircraft systems and flight dynamics to provide immersive pilot training.

Following initial qualification, regulators will use the devices to validate and approve training courseware before airlines begin pilot training.

The 777-9, the first model in the 777X family, features large touchscreen displays, optional dual head-up displays similar to the 787, redesigned pilot seats, a dedicated control and indicator for folding wingtips, and integration of tablet-based Electronic Flight Bag capability.
