PNC Launches Monthly Consumer Health Check to Track U.S. Spending Trends
The PNC Financial Services Group, Inc. announced the launch of its new Monthly Consumer Health Check, a data-driven report designed to provide real-time insights into U.S. consumer activity and broader economic conditions.
The report leverages PNC’s proprietary, anonymized and aggregated transaction data to analyze consumer spending trends, transaction volumes, savings levels, cash-flow patterns and employment indicators. It will be published monthly and aims to offer timely guidance for business leaders, investors and households.
According to Alex Overstrom, head of Retail Banking at PNC, the bank’s national footprint provides a real-time view into the financial lives of American consumers. Gagan Singh, PNC’s chief investment officer and head of Economics, noted that the report is intended to help clients interpret fast-moving economic signals and make more informed investment decisions.
The Monthly Consumer Health Check includes headline spending momentum, category-level trends across essentials and discretionary items, household financial resilience indicators, and forward-looking commentary from PNC economists. The bank stated that the index is built using anonymized data with strict privacy safeguards and seasonal adjustments.
