Boeing and Ethiopian Airlines announced an order for nine Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner aircraft as the African carrier looks to expand its long-haul international network amid rising global travel demand. The new widebody jets will support route growth from Addis Ababa to destinations across Europe, Asia, North America and key intra-African markets.
In addition to the Dreamliner order, Ethiopian Airlines also completed the purchase of 11 Boeing 737 MAX aircraft, bringing the total number of newly finalized Boeing jets to 20. Both transactions were concluded in December 2025 and further strengthen the airline’s position as Africa’s largest Boeing operator, with a growing focus on fuel efficiency, sustainability and fleet modernization.
