NEC Corporation announced the launch of its “NEC Composable Disaggregated Infrastructure Solution” in Japan, introducing a new approach to flexibly deploy and manage distributed computing resources such as servers and GPUs. The solution is designed to help data centers and research institutions improve GPU utilization, reduce capital expenditure and operating costs, and enhance energy efficiency amid growing demand for AI workloads, including generative AI and advanced data analytics.

The solution leverages NEC’s proprietary ExpEther technology to disaggregate CPUs and GPUs from traditional server enclosures and connect them over high-speed, low-latency Ethernet networks. This allows computing resources to be allocated dynamically across different locations within a data center or enterprise, avoiding over-provisioning for peak demand and reducing idle capacity. NEC said joint verifications with Osaka University and at the NEC Inzai Data Center have confirmed the effectiveness of the approach in improving scalability and resource efficiency.

NEC plans to initially roll out the solution in the Japanese market and gradually expand its application to other sectors. By enabling more flexible system construction, selective device upgrades and the ability to power down unused resources, the company aims to support more sustainable and cost-efficient digital infrastructure as AI-driven computing demand continues to rise.
