NEC has partnered with emaratech, the UAE’s leading digital identity and border control provider, to deploy advanced biometric smart gates at flydubai’s Airport Operations Centre in Dubai. The collaboration introduces six biometric smart gates in the crew immigration area, enabling fast, secure and contactless identity verification for airline crew in one of the world’s busiest aviation hubs.
The solution uses NEC’s NeoFace Express X5 facial recognition technology to authenticate crew identities almost instantly, replacing manual checks with a fully automated and paperless process. Integrated with flydubai’s digital systems and UAE immigration platforms through emaratech, the gates are designed to streamline clearance procedures while maintaining high standards of data security and privacy.
NEC highlighted that its facial recognition technology has consistently ranked among the top performers in evaluations by the U.S. National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), including leading results in large-scale identification accuracy and long-term aging tests. Company executives from NEC and emaratech said the partnership strengthens the UAE’s digital identity infrastructure and supports safer, more efficient airport operations as regional air traffic continues to grow.
