Robinhood Reports August Operating Metrics: Assets Surge, Trading Mixed
Robinhood Markets (NASDAQ: HOOD) reported 26.7 million funded accounts in August, flat month-over-month but up 2.4 million year-over-year, with growth offset by the escheatment of about 180,000 low-balance accounts. Total platform assets rose 2% to $304 billion, more than doubling from last year, while net deposits reached $4.8 billion for the month.
Trading activity was mixed: equity volumes fell 5% from July to $199.2 billion, while options activity remained steady at 195.5 million contracts. Crypto trading showed divergence, with Robinhood app volumes down 18% to $13.7 billion, but Bitstamp exchange volumes up 21% to $14.4 billion.
Margin balances climbed 10% month-over-month to $12.5 billion, while cash sweep balances edged up to $34.1 billion. Securities lending revenue came in at $53 million, down 13% from July but up 165% year-over-year.
